Expansion joints lose their watertightness over time, allowing water or other liquids to infiltrate. The old joint material needs to be completely removed and the substrate prepared before resealing the joint.

Repairing leaking joints

Structural engineers place expansion joints between two adjacent building components. This interrupts the reinforcement effect and the two components are connected by a suitable sealing material. This means ground settlement or other natural movements do not cause structural damage during construction. Joint material and construction material need to complement each other to ensure a comprehensive barrier against penetrating liquids.

When repairing leaking joints, it is essential to completely remove the old joint material before replacing it. DYNAJET high-pressure cleaners let you remove this unsound joint material quickly and, above all, comprehensively using the appropriate pressure and temperature for the joint material.

DYNAJET removes 80 km of expansion joints

Sacadat and three other Romanian power plants are connected to a canal system that generates a total of 48 kW of electricity. However, 10% of the water was lost through leaking expansion joints.

No less than 80 km of bitumen expansion joints had to be removed during renovation. The joints then had to be filled with new, highly temperature-resistant and durable filler material. Some concrete renovation was necessary too.

A DYNAJET UHP 170 at 2,800 bar removed the old joint material and prepared the area for the new filler material within just 2 months.
